Punjab Minister Balbir Sidhu's brother Amarjit Singh Sidhu is the new mayor of Mohali
Mohali : Amarjit Singh Sidhu, the brother of Cabinet Minister and Member of the Local Legislature Barbir Singh Sidhu, was elected mayor of the Mohali Municipal Corporation following the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected MC Bhawan councilors in Mohali on Monday.
Amrik Singh Somal and Kuljit Singh Bedi have been elected Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively.
Meanwhile, expressing outrage, Congress councilor and Deputy Mayor Rishav Jain and his wife Rajrani Jain (also a councilor) and Azad Group councilors of former Mayor Kulwant Singh boycotted the event after swearing in.

During the February 14 election, Paramjit Singh Kahlon had filed a lawsuit against Amarjit Singh Sidhu for "vote fraud" in Ward 10 during the MC election. The court ordered a re-election in Ward 10 on February 17 and the results for all 50 wards were announced on February 18.
Twenty-five seats were reserved for women and Congress candidates received 37 seats. None of the Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP candidates won the election while 13 Azad Group candidates won. Azad party councilors would be the main party that always opposes this 50-member House.
