New Delhi : India has set a new record for coronavirus infection with 1,68,912 new cases, an increase of one day so far, taking the number of cases to 1,35,27,717, according to Union Health Ministry data updated Sunday.


Covid's national recovery rate dropped to less than 90 percent.


Active cases exceeded the 12-lakh figure, while the death toll rose to 1,70,179 with 904 deaths, the highest number since October 18, data updated at 8 a.m. showed.



Registered with a steady increase for 33 consecutive days, active cases increased to 12,01,009 comprising 8.88 percent of total infections, and the recovery rate dropped to 89.86%.

The active caseload was very low at 1,35,926 on February 12 and was very high at 10,17,754 on September 18, 2020.


The number of people recovering from the disease has risen to 1,21,56,529, and the death toll has dropped to 1.26 percent, according to data.


According to the ICMR, 25,78,06,986 samples were tested until April 11 and 11,80,136 samples were tested on Sunday.



The 904 dead included 349 from Maharashtra, 122 from Chhattisgarh, 67 from Uttar Pradesh, 59 from Punjab, 54 from Gujarat, 48 from Delhi, 40 from Karnataka, 40 24 from Madhya Pradesh, 22 from Tamil Nadu, 21 from Jharkhand, 16 each from Kerala and Haryana and 10 each from Rajasthan and West Bengal.


1,70,179 people have been reported so far in the country, including 57,987 Maharashtra, 12,908 from Tamil Nadu, 12,889 from Karnataka, 11,283 from Delhi, 10,400 from West Bengal, 9 152 from Uttar Pradesh, 7 507 from Punjab and 7,300 from Andhra Pradesh. PTI
