Kashmir : An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Srinagar's Nawakadal area late Monday night. As per latest inputs, two security forces personnel have got injured in the encounter. Gunbattle was on, said Jammu and Kashmir police.

The encounter started on the intervening night of 18-19 May after the security forces gheraoed few houses in the area following tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the old Srinagar city. The authorities have suspended mobile internet services in Srinagar for now. Police confirmed that an encounter had started at Kanemazar Nawakadal area of Srinagar.

"Encounter has started at Kanemazar Nawakadal area of Srinagar. JKP and CRPF are on the job. Further details shall follow," Kashmir Zone Police said on its official Twitter handle.

"The operation was launched on a credible police input last night in Kanemazar, Nawakadal, Srinagar. Some exchange of fire took place during night. One Police SOG personnel injured. Firing resumed during search in the morning and the operation continues," police added.

In a major victory for the armed forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police, Hizbul Mujahideen chief Reyaz Naikoo was killed in an encounter with security forces in Beighpora area of Awantipora in Kashmir on May 6.
