IndiGo Chaos Hits India: Hundreds Of Flights Cancelled, Passengers Stranded Across Major Cities

Chandigarh Passengers at Chandigarh’s Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport were a harried lot as the majority of IndiGo flights from city were hit on Thursday, with some of the flights to Goa, Dharamshala, Mumbai, and Delhi being cancelled.

The flights were delayed due to the nationwide chaos at the airports caused by IndiGo airline’s issues.

IndiGo has reported eight cancellations, 10 delayed arrival flights and 15 delayed departure flights.

The flights that were affected included the Chandigarh-Chennai flight. This flight, which was supposed to take off at 7.20 am, was rescheduled for 5.50 pm. The passengers who were supposed to arrive at 10.20 am on this flight have been given a tentative time of 8.50 pm now.

Barinder Chawla, a resident of Chandigarh who was coming from Zurich via Delhi to Chandigarh, was also stranded at the airport.

“My flight 6E2196 was from Delhi to Chandigarh from T2. The original time to depart was from 14.25. They then announced initially that it will depart at 15.15 then revised it to 15.45. No announcement was made thereafter and no update on the site/display boards was there. There is complete chaos at the airport,” he said.

He added, “We have been sitting at gate 22 since 15.00 with no clarity as to when it will take off. Finally, boarding started at 16.45 and flight took off at 17.25 and landed at Chandigarh at 18.00.”

Chawla said that “his connecting flight from Zurich came at 10 am”. “We had been at the airport since then. Had we known that it would take off this late, we would have made alternative arrangements. Also, there was another woman who had flown in from Frankfurt since 6 am,” Chawla added.

The Chandigarh-Pune flight that was to depart at 9.10 pm was rescheduled for departure at 11.45 pm. It will now be arriving at 2.10 am.

Similarly, the Chandigarh-Mumbai flight that was scheduled to depart at 5.20 am faced a delay and departed at 7.37 am. It landed in Mumbai at 10.18 am instead of the initial schedule of 8 am. The evening flight to Mumbai which was to take off at 3.55 pm was rescheduled for 5.05 pm.

The flight to Leh that was scheduled to depart at 11.45 am was rescheduled for 1.57 pm. It arrived at 2.52 pm instead of 12.50 pm.

These measures will remain in place for the next 48 hours and will allow us to normalise our operations and progressively recover our punctuality across the network.” It added that teams are working around the clock to support affected passengers with alternative arrangements or refunds as services are gradually normalised.
