Israel-Iran conflict LIVE: Donald Trump ‘begged’ for ceasefire, says Iran state media as fresh missiles target Israel |
U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Israel and Iran had agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire” soon after Iran launched a limited missile attack Monday (June 23, 2025) on a U.S. military base in Qatar, retaliating for the American bombing of its nuclear sites. Israel and Iran did not immediately acknowledge any ceasefire and heavy Israeli strikes continued in Tehran and other cities early Tuesday (June 24, 2025).
Earlier, Iran has launched missiles at U.S. bases in Qatar and Iraq in retaliation for Washington’s strikes on the country’s nuclear sites. Qatar hosts one of the largest U.S. bases in West Asia. Qatar condemned the attack on Al Udeid Air Base attack and said no one was injured. Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesperon Majed al-Ansari said the missiles were intercepted by Qatari air defences.
Mr. Trump posted on Truth Social that the 24-hour phased-in ceasefire will begin at approximately midnight Tuesday eastern time, giving the two countries six hours to have “wound down and completed their in progress, final missions.” He said it would bring an “Official END” to the war. The Israeli military declined to comment on Mr. Trump’s statement and the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment. There was also no immediate comment from Iran.
Iran’s attack Monday indicated it was prepared to step back from escalating tensions in the volatile region. Iran said the volley matched the number of bombs dropped by the United States on Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend. Iran also said it targeted the base because it was outside of populated areas.
On the 11th day of the conflict, Israel and Iran traded airstrikes that have become a reality for civilians in both countries since Israel started the war to target Tehran’s rapidly advancing nuclear program.

Deadline Trump announced for Iran to begin ceasing fire against Israel passes
Iranian state television reported Tuesday that a ceasefire had begun in its war with Israel, even as Israel warned the public of a new missile barrage launched from Iran.
It wasn’t immediately possible to reconcile the messages from Iran and Israel on the 12th day of their war.
Iranian state television announced the ceasefire in a graphic on screen, not immediately acknowledging the new missile barrage coming after the deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump in his earlier ceasefire announcement.
A series of Iranian barrages before the ceasefire deadline killed three people and injured at least eight others, Israel’s Magen David Adom rescue services said. At least one person is believed trapped in the rubble and a residential building in Israel’s south sustained heavy damage, according to emergency services.

Trump heads to the NATO summit on the heels of a possible Israel-Iran ceasefire
President Donald Trump’s first appearance at NATO since returning to the White House was supposed to center on how the U.S. secured a historic military spending pledge from others in the defensive alliance — effectively bending it to its will.
But in the spotlight instead now is Mr. Trump’s decision to strike three nuclear enrichment facilities in Iran that the administration says eroded Tehran’s nuclear ambitions as well as the president’s sudden announcement that Israel and Iran had reached a “complete and total ceasefire.” The sharp U-turn in hostilities just hours before he was set to depart for the summit is sure to dominate the discussions in The Hague, Netherlands.
The impact of the strikes had already begun to shape the summit, with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte dancing around the issue even as hundreds of people showed up in The Hague on Sunday to denounce the conflict in a protest that was supposed to be focused on defense spending.
