Chandigarh : Counting of votes for the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation election is under way, and results are expected to be declared by Monday afternoon, officials said.

Nine counting centres have been set up for 35 wards of the municipal corporation, and counting began at 9 am, they said.

Over 60 per cent polling was recorded in the elections held here on Friday.

The number of wards has been increased from 26 in 2016 to 35 now.

The BJP holds a majority in the current municipal body. PTI

*Harpreet Kaur Babla, wife of leader of opposition Devinder Singh Babla, wins by 3,103 votes from Ward 10. It is the highest winning margin so far.

Sarbajit Kaur of the BJP wins by 502 votes in Ward 6.

*Akali Dal’s Hardeep Singh wins by 2,145 votes in Ward 30.

*AAP's Kuldeep Kumar wins by 1,440 votes in Ward 26.

AAP's Manaur Khan wins by 2,738 votes in Ward 29.

Winners and wards: BJP: Kanwarjit Rana (33), Maheshinder Singh Sidhu (2), Kuljeet Sandhu (14), Bimala Dubey (9); AAP: Jasbir Singh Laddy (21), Yogesh Dhingra (25), Jaswinder Kaur (1); Congress: Darshana (5), Sachin Galav (13).

*Mahesh Sidhu of the BJP wins by 11 votes; beats HS Lucky of Congress.

*Kuljeet Singh Sandhu of BJP wins from Ward 14 by 255 votes.

*Harpreet Kaur Babla, wife of leader of opposition Devinder Babla, of Congress leads by 1,000 votes.

*Sitting mayor Ravi Kant Sharma and ex-mayor Davesh Moudgil, both BJP candidates, among losers.
