Jammu : Indian soldier Naik Velu P is determined to make his 30th birthday memorable as he has left the goal of putting his name on the Guinness Book of World Records from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, a distance of about 4,300 miles, in less than 50 days.

Last year in June, Velu P became the first Indian runner to cover 1,600 km in just 17 days, an act that is in the process of being set as an Asian record.

"Naik Velu, who works as a Nursing Assistant at Para Field Hospital 60, is a great marathon runner who tries to make history with Guinness by running from Kashmir to Kanyakumari about 4,300 kilometers in less than 50 days," said Udhampur Lt Col Abhinav Navneet the Relations Officer (PRO) said.

To start the amazing game, he said Naik Velu, who is celebrating his 30th birthday on April 21, was stabbed to death at 92 hospitals in Srinagar on Friday with an exciting gathering of fans who accompanied him on his first five-kilometer solo run to carry the national flag and boost his character.

"Combining this vast distance from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in 50 days, Velu will be traveling a distance of 70-100 km a day, crossing major cities, towns and provinces," said Lt Col Navneet.

PRO said Naik Velu has already won many ultra-marathons, Tuffman running and Stadiums running in India.

After traveling 200 kilometers from where she started, Naik left the Udhampur headquarters at 7am on Saturday and is on his way to Jammu, running at 10 km an hour, he said.

He was born on April 21, 1991 in Krishnagiri (Tamil Nadu) and as a 13-year-old athlete representing his country in athletics, Naik Velu joined the Army in December 2011 and his first achievement in the military was a gold medal in the country measuring 12.5 km in 2012.

He then passed his interest on ultra-marathons and brought many benefits to the Society by making many such records.

He has represented the Indian team of the Athletic Federation of India since 2016 and in September will be representing India Stadium running in the world championships in Romania, in which he won a 24-hour run in Banguru, Lt Col said Navneet. - PTI
