New Delhi : India has recorded 24,492 new cases, registering more than 20,000 cases on the sixth day in a row, taking the number of people infected with the virus past 1.14 crore, the Union Health Department said on Tuesday.

The total number of cases in the country rose to 1,14,09,831, while the death toll rose to 1,58,856, with 131 deaths, service details updated at 8 a.m. show.

To register a spike in the sixth day in a row, the total number of adult compensation cases has risen to 2,23,432, now containing 1.96 percent of total infections. The recovery rate also dropped to 96.65%, he said.

At least 26,624 diseases were recorded in a 24-hour period on December 20.

The number of people recovering from the disease has risen to 1,10,27,543, and the death toll has dropped to 1.39 percent, according to data.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 22,82,80,763 samples had been tested up to March 15, and 8,73,350 samples were tested on Monday. PTI
