Dhaka : Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here on Friday for a two-day state visit to Bangladesh to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Bangabandh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and hold talks with his colleague Sheikh Hasina.


Modi, who has visited Bangladesh on his first foreign trip since the outbreak of the coronavirus, was received by Prime Minister Hasina at Hazrat Shahjalal Airport in Dhaka on his arrival.


The premier flew to Dhaka on a newly made Boeing 777. He was wearing his mask before disembarking and exchanging hugs with Hasina.


He found a respectable security guard at the airport.


The Prime Minister on Thursday said he would hold meaningful talks with Hasina during the visit, as he expressed happiness that his first foreign trip after the start of the COVID-19 epidemic would be in a neighboring country with deep ties with India. .


"Our partnership with Bangladesh is an important pillar of our Neighborhood First policy, and we are committed to continuing to deepen and differentiate it. We will continue to support Bangladesh's remarkable development journey, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," Modi said on Twitter ahead of his visit.

He wrote that he was looking forward to remembering the life and aspirations of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Bangladesh Liberation War, as well as our political obligations.


Modi is expected to head straight to the Savar National Memorial from the airport to pay tribute to the 1971 Liberation War martyrs.


Shortly afterwards, he will visit the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi 32, the former founder of Bangladesh founder, to honor his memories.


Later, Modi will join the celebration as a guest of honor at National Parade Square. Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid will be the guest of honor at the event, which will be led by Prime Minister Hasina.


In the evening, Modi is scheduled to open the Bangabandhu-Bapu Museum in partnership with his colleagues at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center. He will also attend a state banquet hosted by Hasina.


On Saturday, Modi will attend the funeral of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara in the Gopalganj region, the first Indian official to visit the area.


He is also expected to visit Jashoreshwari and Orkandi temples southwest of Shatkhira and Gopalganj on Saturday.


On Saturday afternoon, Modi will hold talks with Hasina in the Office of the Prime Minister, where at least five MoUs are expected to be signed and more projects will be opened.


Later, he will meet President Hamid at the Bangabhaban presidential palace before heading to New Delhi tonight.


Modi's visit comes as Bangladesh commemorates Mujib Borsho, the centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's 50th anniversary of the country's liberation struggle. The two countries also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of a partnership. PTI
