New Delhi : India recorded its highest number of coronavirus cases this year with 28,903 new infections, taking the total COVID-19 total to 1,14,38,734, according to Union Health Ministry data updated Wednesday.


The death toll has risen to 1,59,044 with a new figure of 188, the highest figure in the past two months, according to updated data at 8am. Registration increases for seven consecutive days, the total number of job loss cases has risen to 2,34,406 now containing 2.05 percent of total infections, and the recovery rate has dropped to 96.56 percent, the data said.


At least 30,254 diseases were recorded in a 24-hour period on December 13.

The number of people recovering from the disease has risen to 1,10,45,284, while the death toll has dropped to 1.39 percent, according to data.


India’s COVID-19 price had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It passed by 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on September October 11, it fell 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and skipped the mark of one crore on December 19.



According to ICMR, 22,92,49,784 samples were tested until March 16 and 9,69,021 samples were tested on Tuesday.


The 188 young people who died included 87 from Maharashtra, 38 from Punjab, 15 from Kerala and 12 from Chhattisgarh.



A total of 1,599 044 people have been killed so far in the country, including 52,996 from Maharashtra, 12,555 from Tamil Nadu, 12,403 from Karnataka, 10,945 from Delhi, and 10,297 from West Bengal. -8,750 from Uttar Pradesh and 7 185 from Andhra Pradesh.


The Department of Health has emphasized that more than 70 percent of deaths are due to comorbidities.



"Our statistics are reconciled with the Medical Research Council of India," the Department said on its website, adding that the logistical distribution of statistics depends on validation and recurrence. - PTI
