A 100-year-old Hindu temple has been attacked in Rawalpindi, Pakistan
Islamabad : A 100-year-old Hindu temple being repaired in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi has been attacked by a group of unknown individuals, according to a police complaint.
The incident happened in the Purana Qila area of the city on Saturday when 10 to 15 people entered the temple at 7.30pm and damaged a large door and another high-rise door and stairs, according to a police complaint.
The Dawn newspaper reported that Evacuee Trust Property Board's North Zone security chief Syed Raza Abbas Zaidi had installed a motorbike at the Banni police station in Rawalpindi, saying construction and renovation work was underway last month.
He said there was an attack in front of the temple that was removed on March 24.
However, the rites of worship were not established in the temple, and there was no idol or other form of worship.
He demanded legal action against those who damaged the temple.

Earlier, the infamous mafia had long surrounded the temple by making shops and leisure centers.
The district administration assisted by the police recently removed all interventions.
After the temple was demolished, the rebuilding work began.
Meanwhile, the temple's administrator, Om Prakash, said that as soon as the information was received, Rawalpindi staff arrived at the scene and took control of the situation.
Prakash said police had been sent to his house and temple for security reasons. However, he said Holi's celebrations would not be held at the temple, The Express Tribune reported.
Hindus form a very small community in Pakistan. According to official statistics, 75 lakh Hindus live in Pakistan.
Attacks on young people are common in Pakistan. Last year in December, a Hindu temple was attacked by a mob in the Karak region of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. PTI
