Mumbai : Police have arrested 14 people in connection with a police raid on a crowd of Sikh swords in Nanded after they were denied permission to march in public due to COVID-19, an official said on Tuesday.


Wazirabad police in the Nanded district of Maharashtra have registered three MOTORS against 64 people (named by FIRs) and other unknown individuals in connection with Monday's incident in Sri Hazur Sahib gurdwara, he said.


A video of the virus showed a mob armed with swords coming out of the gurdwara, breaking through police barracks and attacking the police.



Four constables were injured and six vehicles were also damaged. The condition of one of the injured police officers was critical, the official said.


Police were also trying to determine if anyone on the gurdwara committee was involved in the incident, he said.

"So far we have arrested 14 people so far for attempted murder, incitement, and under the provisions of the Arms Act and other sections. About 64 people have been called to the FIR, while others are still searching," said Deputy Inspector General of Police Nanded Range Nisar Tamboli. told PTI.


The official on Monday said he had not been given permission to visit the public Hola Mohalla due to the coronavirus epidemic.



"The gurdwara committee has been notified and has assured us that they will follow our instructions and will hold the event inside the gurdwara premises," he said.


However, when Nishan Sahib was brought to the gate at 4pm on Monday, several participants started arguing and more than 300 youths came out of the gate, repaired barricades and started attacking a police officer, he said.
