England batter Joe Root has added another significant achievement to his remarkable international career, moving ahead of Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar in a major statistical milestone. Root’s latest record came during England’s recent cricketing campaign and further highlighted his extraordinary consistency across a long Test and international career.

Root has continued to produce important performances even after more than a decade at the highest level. His ability to accumulate runs and contribute in different match situations has kept him among the leading batters of his generation.

One of the latest milestones came when Root reached **23,000 international runs**, becoming the first Englishman to reach the mark. Root’s numbers in Test cricket remain particularly notable. He has already crossed the 14,000-run mark in the format, becoming only the second batter after Tendulkar to achieve that figure. Root reached the landmark against New Zealand in June 2026. 

However, Tendulkar still holds the all-time Test run record. Current statistical records list Tendulkar on **15,921 Test runs**, while Root has moved into second place with **14,278 runs**. This means a substantial gap remains between the two, despite Root’s continued progress. 

The comparison also shows why Root’s longevity has become such an important part of his career story. He has remained productive through changes in England’s teams, coaches and leadership structures, while continuing to occupy a central role in the batting order.

Root’s latest achievements do not erase Tendulkar’s historic records, but they demonstrate how the England batter has steadily entered statistical territory previously dominated by some of cricket’s greatest names.
