Patiala : In a major security incident near Patiala, an accused involved in an alleged railway track blast attempt died while trying to trigger an explosive device, according to the Punjab Police. The incident has raised fresh concerns over railway safety and possible sabotage attempts in the region.

Police officials said the घटना took place late at night when the suspect reportedly reached a railway track on the outskirts of Patiala with an improvised explosive device (IED). Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused was attempting to plant or detonate the explosive when it went off prematurely, killing him on the spot.

Senior officers stated that local police, along with bomb disposal squads and forensic teams, rushed to the scene immediately after receiving information about the blast. The area was quickly cordoned off, and train movement on the affected route was temporarily halted as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.

According to sources, the आरोपी was believed to be acting alone, but investigators are not ruling out the possibility of a larger network or external links. पुलिस ने कहा कि they are examining call records, digital footprints, and other evidence to determine whether the suspect had any affiliations with extremist or criminal groups.

A senior Punjab Police official said, “Prima facie, it appears the accused died due to an accidental detonation while handling the explosive device. However, all angles are being probed.” The official added that further details would emerge after a thorough forensic examination.

Railway authorities also conducted a detailed inspection of the tracks to ensure there was no structural damage. Fortunately, officials confirmed that no trains were passing through the area at the time of the blast, preventing what could have been a major tragedy involving passengers.

Security has been heightened across key railway routes in Punjab following the incident. Additional patrols, surveillance, and checking operations have been intensified, especially in sensitive areas. Authorities have urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity near railway infrastructure.

Meanwhile, officials are working to identify the deceased accused and establish his motive. The body has been sent for post-mortem, and efforts are underway to trace his background, including any prior criminal record or links to radical elements.

This incident comes at a time when security agencies across India are on high alert due to concerns over potential threats to critical infrastructure. Railway networks, being a vital lifeline, are often considered soft targets, making such preventive measures crucial.

Further investigation is ongoing, and Punjab Police has assured that strict action will be taken if any conspiracy is uncovered.
