Noida Labour Unrest Spreads, Key Faridabad-Agra Route Disrupted

Noida : A workers’ protest in Noida over wage hike demands escalated on Monday, spilling onto the busy Faridabad-Agra Highway and causing massive traffic disruptions. The agitation, which began in industrial clusters of Noida, quickly intensified as hundreds of workers took to the roads, demanding better pay and improved working conditions.

According to officials, the protest was led by workers from multiple manufacturing units who alleged that their wages have not kept pace with rising living costs. Carrying banners and chanting slogans, the protesters marched from factory areas towards key roadways, eventually blocking sections of the highway that connects Faridabad with Agra.

The blockade led to long traffic snarls, with vehicles stranded for hours during peak commuting time. Commuters traveling between Delhi, Noida, and Faridabad were among the worst affected. Many office-goers were seen walking long distances, while transport services faced severe delays. Authorities diverted traffic to alternative routes, but congestion persisted across adjoining roads.

Police personnel were deployed in large numbers to manage the situation and prevent any untoward incidents. Senior officials reached the protest site to engage in dialogue with worker representatives. While the protest remained largely peaceful, tensions briefly escalated when some demonstrators attempted to block additional lanes of the highway.

“We are demanding a fair wage revision. Prices of essential goods have gone up, but our salaries remain stagnant,” said one of the protesting workers. Many participants also raised concerns over job security, working hours, and lack of benefits.

Officials from the labour department stated that talks between factory management and worker unions are underway. “We are trying to mediate and find a resolution that addresses the concerns of both parties,” an official said. However, no immediate breakthrough was reported at the time of writing.

Industrial activity in parts of Noida was also affected as several units reported reduced attendance due to the protest. Employers expressed concern over production losses and urged authorities to restore normalcy at the earliest.

Meanwhile, commuters took to social media to express frustration over the traffic chaos. Many urged authorities to ensure better crowd management and quicker resolution of such disputes to avoid disruption to daily life.

This incident highlights the growing unrest among industrial workers in the region, as inflation and cost-of-living pressures continue to mount. Experts believe that unless wage structures are revised in line with economic realities, similar protests could emerge in other industrial hubs.

As negotiations continue, authorities remain on high alert, with additional security deployed along key routes. Traffic movement on the Faridabad-Agra highway is expected to normalize gradually, depending on the outcome of ongoing talks between workers and management.
