Earlier, conceding a lead of 30 runs, South Africa where bundled out for 153 runs. Temba Bavuma was the top scorer with 55 runs, not just in the South African innings but the entire game. Earlier in the first innings, India managed to put on 189 runs on the board, with skipper Shubman Gill injuring his neck and being ruled out of the game.

South Africa has taken a 1-0 lead in the series, with the next Test to be played in Guwahati starting on Saturday.

I felt a little bit of nerves. It’s hard to catch your breath with that sun setting, tried to be clear on my plans. Yeah, luckily I got the reward and a brilliant catch by Temba (on being first smashed by Axar and then taking his wicket). He was phenomenal (on Simon Harmer). He showed why he’s got 1,000 first-half wickets. It’s a privilege to bowl alongside him. It’s been a brilliant feeling. There was a real hunger and desire to cross over the line. Very much so (on if the win in Pakistan set them up well for this tour). I think we take a lot of confidence, but we know the task at hand here in India. It’s a different ball game when you come here. The guys are highly skilled, conditions are very different, but, you know, for our team to come a long way and tick the first box of this tour has been a phenomenal effort.  I think we know there’s always a ball with your name on it, so consistency is key, and Simon showed it a lot better than I did in this Test, but also the fact that Temba showed us and gave us the field sets to allow us to ball the way we wanted to, one must give a lot of credit to him as well. Like I said, it’s probably the one assignment that we hadn’t ticked from a box perspective ( a Test win in India), but, you know, it’s our first leg forward, we can be really, really, really proud of what we’ve achieved today.

Simon Harmer has another one here. The ball pitched on the middle stump and hit the off-stump. Shubman Gill hospitalised with neck spasm, doubtful for remainder of series

India captain Shubman Gill’s participation in the Kolkata Test and in the remainder of the Test series against South Africa is in doubt after he was hospitalised with a neck spasm. Having faced three deliveries, Gill walked off the field and was later taken a local hospital after the end of the day’s play. Following further scans, it was decided that he would spend the night at the hospital as a precautionary measure.

As India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel revealed, Gill is understood to have woken up with a neck spasm. And after he retired hurt, there were visuals of him doing neck exercise on Saturday morning as part of his warm-up drills. And in the early stages of the play, Gill went off injured after playing just three balls. Gill, who played a sweep shot to get a boundary, felt discomfort as soon as he stood up to his regular stance.
