Breaking News: Punjab schools closed due to heavy rain till 26 August 

New Delhi: The Punjab is witnessing heavy rainfall since last night and taking a note of it, the state government has directed schools, colleges in the state to be closed till Saturday, August 26, 2023. As per the instruction of CM Bhagwant Mann, the state government has declared holidays for schools in the state from August 23 to 26, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains tweeted in Punjabi.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert for Chandigarh and Ambala.

Meanwhile, schools in Shimla and Mandi will be closed on August 23 and 24 and all educational institutes in Bilaspur will remain closed today. The met office has has issued red alert in several parts of Himachal Pradesh- Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur and Una districts. The Met issued orange alert on August 23 and 24 and yellow alert on August 25 and 26.

A total of 227 people have lost their lives due to rain related incidents in Himachal Pradesh. The state has suffered losses of Rs 10,000 crores.
