Shimla : The current rainy season has taken its toll as 66 persons have lost their lives in Himachal since the commencement of monsoon. As many as 40 persons died in various accidents, four in drowning, seven due to snake bite, three were electrocuted, seven fell from tree or rock and one person each died in landslide and flash floods. Four are still missing.
As many as 34 roads, including 20 in Chamba, 10 in Kullu, two in Lahaul and Spiti and one each in Bilaspur and Shimla, are blocked and 69 water supply schemes are disrupted in the state on account of heavy rainfall.
The local MeT office has issued yellow warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places in low and middle hills for the next four days and cautioned that damage may occur to fruit plants and new plantings due to heavy rainfall. Supply of electricity may be affected and the possibility of landslides in hilly areas cannot be ruled out.
Dharamsala with 172 mm rain was wettest in the region followed by Gaggal 108 mm, Paonta Sahib 107 mm, Nurpur 80 mm, Bijahi 58 mm, Shahpur 50.5 mm, Rampur (Una) 43 mm, Khadrala 36 mm, Una 35 mm, Palampur 33 mm, Jogindernagar 32 mm, Sihunta 31 mm Sarahan 29 mm, Naina Devi and Baijnath 28 mm each, Baghi 25 mm and Kotkhai 20 mm.
Keylong with 12.8 degree C was coldest at night while Una with 33,4 degree C was hottest during the day.
