Mandi Cold wave conditions gripped Lahaul and Spiti district following fresh snowfall in the region today, hampering normal life. Links roads to Udaipur from Keylong were blocked for traffic. Similarly, traffic movement towards Darcha from Keylong in the district also came to a standstill.


The Miyar valley received considerable snowfall and local residents were cut off from district headquarters Keylong. On Saturday morning, the Atal Tunnel  at Rohtang on the Manali-Leh National Highway was also blocked between  Manali and Keylong but was restored for select  (4x4) vehicles via the  Atal Tunnel.

Residents of the Miyar valley that received considerable snowfall were cut off from district headquarters Keylong.

On Saturday morning, the Atal Tunnel at Rohtang on the Manali-Leh NH was also blocked between Manali and Keylong but was restored for select vehicles.

In view of public safety, the Lahaul and Spiti administration has restricted traffic movement on the Manali-Keylong road. Only emergency vehicles would be allowed to move on the road with prior permission from the district administration.


Pankaj Rai, Deputy Commissioner, Lahaul and Spiti, said that due to heavy snowfall in Lahaul and Spiti, several link roads were blocked. The Manali-Keylong road via the Atal Tunnel also remained blocked for traffic movement since morning.


Rai issued an advisory to Lahaul and Spiti residents to avoid unnecessary journey on the Manali-Keylong road for the next few days due to the threat of snow avalanches.


He said that the entire area is snow-avalanche prone, so precautions should be taken while travelling on the route. He added that people should avoid venturing into high-altitude areas these days.


Manali town also received fresh snowfall, bringing smiles on the faces of the hoteliers of Kullu and Manali.


Kullu DC Richa Verma also urged the tourists and the people of the district to avoid going to high-altitude areas, which also received considerable snowfall today
