Ludhiana : The police on Tuesday claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of vehicle lifters who used to steal Mahindra Bolero Pik-Up and other vehicles from Punjab and Haryana.
Disclosing this here today, Khanna SSP Harpreet Singh said on the basis of secret inputs, a team of the Khanna police laid a trap near Chomon village and apprehended five persons with stolen vehicles.
Modus operandi
The police said the suspects were allegedly selling spare parts of stolen vehicles at a scrap godown at Model Town in Maloud after dismantling the vehicles.

SSP Harpreet Singh said under the supervision of Manpreet Singh, SP-l Khanna, and Hardeep Singh DSP, Payal, Inspector Karnail Singh, Payal SHO, and Inspector Gurmail Singh, in-charge, CIA, Khanna, along with a police party, have apprehended the miscreants.
He said the suspects had been identified as Naresh, alias Kalu, of Biran village, Bhiwani in Haryana, Neeraj of Sheetal Nagar, Rohtak, Lakhvir Singh, alias Lakhi, of Bhasod village in Sangrur, Amrik Ram and Vicky Ram from Maloud, Ludhiana.
He added that the police had recovered two stolen Bolero Pik-Up vehicles (HR37 E 3310 and PBII BR 6285) from their possession.
He said during the interrogation, the suspects revealed that they had stolen these vehicles from Ambala along with their accomplices Amrik Ram, Vicky Ram, and Deepak. They had also admitted that they had stolen vehicles from Ambala, Hisar, Patiala, Sangrur and Dhuri.
He said they used to dismantle the vehicles and sell their spare parts to Amrik Ram for around Rs 60,000.
The SSP said the interrogation led to the sealing of a godown belonging to Amrik and Vicky where they used to store stolen vehicles and spare parts and dismantle them in pieces to sell it further in the market. Further, they were still being quizzed and there was a possibility of major disclosures. Other suspects would be arrested soon. A case under Sections 379, 411, 201 of the IPC was registered.
He said many pending cases were being solved with their arrest of these vehicle lifters. Earlier, 20 FIRs were registered against them in Haryana and 12 in Punjab.
