Islamabad : Firebrand cleric-cum-politician Maulana Fazlur Rehman has been unanimously appointed the chief of the newly-formed Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an anti-government alliance launched by 11 Opposition parties to oust PM Imran Khan.
The decision was taken on Saturday during a virtual meeting of parties attended by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo and three-time former PM Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Balochistan National Party chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal among other senior politicians.

PDM’s steering committee convener Ahsan Iqbal said Sharif proposed Rehman’s name as the alliance president and it was endorsed by Bilawal and others, the Dawn newspaper reported. Meanwhile, cience and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry said Pakistan people never allowed extremists to lead or mainstream politics. — PTI
Headache for Imran
The Opposition has formed an action plan under which public meetings and rallies will be held before a "decisive march" towards Islamabad in January 2021.
