New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a new taxation platform to "honour the honest".


The prime minister said faceless assessment, faceless appeal and taxpayer charter are part of the new platform 'Transparent Taxation – Honoring the Honest'.


He said that honest taxpayers played an important role in national development.


"Policy-driven governance minimises grey areas, cutting discretion," he said.

The prime minister said that fundamental reforms were needed in Indian tax system and an effort was on to make the tax system seamless, painless and faceless.


"Faceless assessment, taxpayer charter starts from today, faceless appeal to begin from September 25," he added.


Modi said India was among nations with lowest corporate tax.


Taxpayer Charter outlining right and responsibility is an important development, he said.


"Tax return scrutiny has been cut to one-fourth to 0.26 per cent of all returns filed," said Modi. --PTI
