OdishaOdisha today became the first state in the country to extend the 21-day lockdown due to coronavirus till April 30, with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik urging the Centre to follow suit. In a video message, Patnaik thanked the people of the state for their cooperation and said he knew it “involves a lot of sacrifice, hardship and uncertainty but this is the only way to face this crisis”. Citing the example of US, which is grappling with the pandemic, the CM said at this crucial juncture, “one has to decide between protecting lives of people and economic activity”.

“The State Cabinet which met today decided that saving the lives of our people is the top most priority at this juncture. Accordingly we have decided to extend the lockdown till April 30. We will recommend to government of India to extend the national lockdown up to April 30,” he said. In addition to this, we will also request the Union government not to start airline and railway services till April 30, he added.


464 Cases Against Lockdown Violators in Mumbai | A total of 464 cases have been registered under section 188 of  the IPC against violators of the coronavirus lockdown in Mumbai, Maharashtra, yesterday. A total of 3,634 cases have been registered against violators since March 20 and  2,850 people have been arrested and released on bail till yesterday, ANI reports.

191 Coronavirus Cases in Karnataka | Till date 191 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in Karnataka. This includes 6 deaths and 28 discharges. Ten new positive cases have been reported from April 8  from 5:00 PM  to 9th April 2020, 12:00 noon.

Delhi's Bengali Market Sealed After Workers Were Found on Roof | Delhi’s popular haunt Bengali Market was among the 20 hotspots sealed by the administration after three people were found infected with coronavirus and 35 workers were found on the rooftop of a pastry shop. An FIR has been registered against Bengali Pastry Shop for defying the lockdown, even as the popular eatery denied any wrongdoing and clarified that it had only provided shelter to its workers who were stranded after the sudden announcement of the lockdown.

Kerala Is Doing Good Testing | Kerala has been leading the way in the fight against coronavirus in many ways. From testing more to taking a slew of social measures, they have shown the path for other states. As of March 30, Kerala had 234 cases. They've added 111 in the next nine days. Notably, they've been testing far more than their neighbours. As of Wednesday, they had tested 11986 samples. Over 1.4 lakh people are under observation in the state.
