Karnataka: 80-yr-old dies from COVID-19; death toll rises to 17

An 80-year-old COVID-19 patient has died in Karnataka's Kalaburagi district, taking the death toll in the state to 17, Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar said on Tuesday. The elderly person was suffering from Parkinson's disease for the last three years and died at a hospital on Monday, the minister said in a tweet.

Plasma Therapy Shows Positive Result On Critical Covid-19 Patient

The Max Hospital in Saket has administered plasma therapy on a critical coronavirus patient and it's showing positive results with the patient being taken off ventilator support, the hospital said on Monday.

The office of Ayushman Bharat that comes under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been sealed and 25 employees have been quarantined after an employee who is PS to the Additional Chief Executive Officer, tested positive for COVID-19.

As soon as the employee was confirmed with novel coronavirus our office was sealed. At least 25 employees have been quarantined, the source told IANS adding thankfully the staff was not much because 50 per cent employees are working from home.

With 88 Fresh Covid-19 Cases, Gujarat Nearing 2,000

Gujarat is now close to the 2,000 mark as far as the number of corona positive cases is concerned as Ahmedabad registered over 150 positive cases on Monday, a majority of these cases were detected in containment clusters following intensified testing. Gujarat now has 1,939 positive cases and 71 deaths.

Out of the total 88 positive cases found on Monday evening, Ahmedabad has 61 and Surat 25. Gujarat is now a whisker away from 2,000 mark with a total of 1,939 positive cases found in the state.

Ahmedabad continued to lead the state with maximum positive cases 1,248, followed by Surat 269, Vadodara 188, Rajkot 38, Bhavnagar 32, Anand 28, Bharuch 23, Gandhinagar 17, Patan 15, Narmada 12, Panchmahals 11, Banaskantha 10, Chotta Udepur 7, Kutch and Mehsana with 6 each, Botad 5, Porbandar, Mahisagar and Dahod with 3 each, Gir-Somnath, Kheda and Sabarkantha 2 each and Jamnagar and Morbi with one each.

JUST IN | 5 more areas of Delhi added to the list of Covid-19 containment zones in the last 24 hours. The number of containment zones in the national capital is now at 84.

The new Covid-19 containment zones, also known as the red zone or hotspots, according to ANI are Lane 24-28 of Tughlaqabad Extension, Block - G of Jahangirpuri, Flat number 265 to 500 of Sanjay Enclave, Block 34 of Trilokpuri, and Block AF of Shalimar Bagh.

78 more Coronavirus cases and 2 more deaths reported in the national capital in the last 24 hours. Total cases in Delhi now at 2081, including 1603 active cases, 431 recovered and 47 deaths.

Two More Die In Telangana, Toll Mounts To 23

Two more people died of Covid-19 in Telangana on Monday, taking the death toll in the state to 23. The state has reported five deaths in two days. However, the number of positive cases showed a declining trend.

Fourteen people tested positive on Monday, taking the overall number of positive cases to 872. Of the new cases, 12 were reported from Greater Hyderabad and one each from Medchal and Nizamabad.

JUST IN | As many as 53 mediapersons, mostly from the electronic media, have tested Covid-19 positive at a special camp organised for them, here last week. BMC Reporters Association president Vishnu Sonawane said the affected mediapersons had been isolated at the Fern Hotel in Goregaon suburb, north-west Mumbai.

In an attempt to assist states effectively address situation arising out of Covid-19, the Centre on Monday released the April instalment of states' share in central taxes amounting to over Rs 46,000 crore.

The money has been released ahead of schedule and as a special dispensation to meet immediate funding needs of the state governments looking to restore economic activity and minimise losses to its citizens due to disruptions caused by lockdowns.

With the Health Ministry saying that 80 per cent of the Covid-19 cases are either asymptomatic or with mild symptoms, health experts on Monday said lockdown and social distancing are the only way to prevent transmission from asymptomatic cases in a populous country like Indian with limited testing capacity.

1,200 Kashmiri migrants from various states, who were stranded in Punjab's Pathankot town for the past 20 days, entered J&K on Monday, according to officials. The Punjab government and the police were providing them food and lodging during the 20-day stay and isolation.

The Union Health Ministry on Monday said social distancing is the only vaccine in the absence of any vaccine for this viral infection and the duration of doubling rate for coronavirus cases which was 3.4 days before lockdown has become 7.5 days in the past seven days.

* States where doubling rate is less than 20 days are - Delhi (8.5 days), Karnataka (9.2 days), Telangana (9.4 days), Andhra Pradesh (10.6 days), J&K (11.5 days), Punjab (13.1 days), Chhattisgarh (13.3 days), Tamil Nadu (14 days) and Bihar (16.4 days)

* Total number of confirmed cases in India are 17,265, 2,546 people have been cured and 543 have succumbed to the disease.

* Total number of active cases in India is 14,175. Cases added in the past twenty four hours are 1,553 cases while 36 have died.

* So far, 2,546 people have been cured and the recovery rate is 14.75 per cent.

* States where doubling rate is between 20 days to 30 days are Andaman and Nicobar (20.1 days), Haryana (21 days), Chandigarh (25.4 days), Assam (25.8 days), Uttrakhand (26.6 days) and Ladakh (26.6 days)

COVID-19: 43 New Cases In Jaipur As Rajasthan Tally Swells To 1,535

A total of 43 new COVID-19 cases were registered in Jaipur on Monday taking the tally in the city to 578 out of 1,535 patients in Rajasthan, said Additional Chief Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh.

Till date, 13 deaths have been reported due to COVID-19 in Jaipur out of 25 deaths reported in the state. Jodhpur stands second in the list with 234 cases out of which six tested positive on Monday. Two deaths have been reported in this district till date.

Bharatpur and Kota are third position with 102 cases each, Tonk is fourth with 95 cases, Ajmer-24, Alwar-7, Banswara-61, Bhilwara-28, Bikaner-37, Churu-14, Dausa-13, Dholpur-1, Dungarpur-5, Jaisalmer-32, Jhunjhunu-39, Karauli, 3, Pali-2, Sikar-2, Udaipur, 4, Pratapgarh-2, Nagaur-59, Jhalawar-20, Barmer-1, Hanumangarh-3, and Sawai Madhopur with 5.

Congress Demands Rs 7,500 Into Jan Dhan Accounts

The Consultative committee of the Congress on Covid headed by former prime minister Manmohan Singh met on Monday and has demanded Rs 7500 cash transfer to all Jan Dhan and pension accounts of widows, disabled and old age persons.

Former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh who is a member of the committee, addressing a press conference, said that, the committee will give the recommendation on the MSME and agriculture sector in a day or two and government has no dearth of money so they should transfer cash immediately.

The former minister said that we will give constructive suggestions to the government and hope it will take it positively. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi had also advocated constructive support to the government in his last press conference.

Covid-19 kits supplied by ICMR-NICED defective, says WB govt

The West Bengal government has alleged that the Covid-19 testing kits supplied by the NICED, ICMR's nodal agency in the state, a fortnight ago, are ‘apparently defective’ as they show ‘inconclusive results’ leading to repeated confirmatory tests and delaying diagnosis of the disease. The ICMR-NICED authorities said it could be possibly because the kits ‘have not been standardized’ and it is considering the matter ‘very seriously’. West Bengal has reported 12 deaths and 276 cases of COVID-19 affliction.


UP CM Yogi Adityanath To Not Attend Father's Last Rites To 'Ensure Lockdown Enforcement'

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's father who had been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, passed away on Monday morning. and was suffering from liver and kidney problems. Adityanath announced that he will not be able to take part in the last rites which will take place tomorrow.
