NEW DELHI : India's total count of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases has reached 26,496, said Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday. The country reported reported 1,990 new Covid positive cases and 49 deaths in the last 24 hours.
At least 19,868 patients are active cases and 5,804 people have been cured, discharged, or migrated. The coronavirus death toll stands at 824 so far.
Neighbourhood and standalone shops were allowed to resume business from Saturday but those in markets will remain shut till May 3 for the national lockdown to contain the coronavirus. All shops may open in rural areas but malls will stay shut in all places, said the Home Ministry in an order late Friday night.

The pandemic has so far killed more than 203,289 people across the world and infected more than 2,921,439. The number of COVID-19 cases in the US is more than the next six countries taken together: Spain (219,764), Italy (192,994), France (159,495), Germany (154,545), United Kingdom (144,635) and Turkey (104,912).

Addressing the country on Sunday in his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said we are in the midst of a war and every Indian is a soldier in this fight.

"In the middle of this pandemic, the farmers are ensuring that no one sleeps hungry in our country. Each person is fighting this war as per their capacity. Eighteen persons of a family in Maghar in Sant Kabir Nagar district have tested positive for coronavirus.
Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Sanjay Kumar Pandey said that a 23-year-old man of Maghar area was found Corona positive on April 21. Officials sent samples of 27 people who came in contact with the man to Gorakhpur B.R.D. Medical College for tests and the reports showed that 18 persons of the family were infected with the coronavirus.
Federation of Resident Doctors' Association asks govt to provide accommodation to quarantined medics
The Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) has written to the Union Health Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan, seeking assistance regarding accommodation facilities for resident doctors advised for home quarantine. The letter states that it will be an important precautionary measure to control the spread of the virus, ANI reported.
In a letter to the Health Minister, the association stated that recently there have been reports of resident doctors from various hospitals who tested positive for COVID-19. As a consequence, their primary contacts who are mostly their colleagues and resident doctors, have been advised to be on home quarantine, the association added.
Madhya Pradesh Covid-19 LIVE: 91 new coronavirus cases in Indore; district tally 1,176
The number of coronavirus cases in Indore rose to 1,176 after 91 more people tested positive for the disease in the Madhya Pradesh district during the last 24 hours, an official said on Sunday.
So far, 57 coronavirus patients have died in Indore, which has emerged as one of the COVID-19 hotspots in the country, district chief medical and health officer Praveen Jadia said. Till now, 107 people have been discharged after recovering from the viral infection, he said.

COVID-19 LIVE: Over 400 stranded Pakistanis return from Afghanistan
Over 400 Pakistanis stranded in Afghanistan due to the restrictions in place to curb the coronavirus pandemic crossed over to Pakistan through the Torkham border and have been placed under quarantine, according to a media report on Sunday.
The 462 returnees, who arrived on Saturday, include 379 men, 47 women and 60 children. With this, the total number of Pakistanis who have returned from Afghanistan amid the ongoing crisis has reached 1,632, the Dawn newspaper reported.
Coronavirus outbreak LIVE: India cases at 26,496; Delhi tally climbs to 2,625
The confirmed coronavirus cases in the country jumped to 26,496 as the death toll mounted to 824, according to the health ministry on Sunday.
In the national capital, the number of coronavirus positive cases spiked to 2,625 with 111 new cases and one death being reported in a day, according to Delhi government on Saturday. Of the total number of 54 fatalities reported till date, 29 of the deceased were aged 60 and above, making over 53 per cent of the total death cases, news agency PTI reported. Fifteen of them were aged between 50-59 and 10 were aged less than 50 years, officials said.
